The breakdown
The reveal
Santa Monica Studio has revealed God of War Laufey for PlayStation 5. The headline shock isn't the game itself — it's the lead: you play as Faye, also known as Laufey, Kratos' late wife and Atreus' mother, voiced by Deborah Ann Woll.
After her funeral, Faye unexpectedly awakens in 'the Everywhen' and discovers that her careful plans to protect Kratos and Atreus are under threat. To save her family, she has to fight her way through the afterlife of the gods.
A new realm, every mythology
The Everywhen is described as 'the birthplace and endpoint to which all magic returns' — a realm inhabited by gods and creatures from many different mythologies, not just Norse. The preview already showed Faye clashing with hostile gods including Sekhmet and Begtse.

How it plays
Combat is pitched as blending the movement and fluidity of the Greek era with the Norse era's approach to world-building — 'intimate, brutal combat' alongside exploration and a story-driven structure. Faye wields a legendary sword guarded by Rue, plus a soul-manipulation power called the Golden Hand of the Jötnar that detaches souls from bodies to use in combos.
She's joined by Phranque (Jack Quaid), a cosmic cube with protective instincts, and Rue (Perlina Lau), an enchanted ribbon that guards her blade. Game Director Ariel Lawrence and Head of Creative Cory Barlog led the reveal.
Still unknown
No release date, no price, and no platforms beyond PS5. It's 'coming soon to PlayStation 5,' and you can wishlist it on the PlayStation Store now. Source: PlayStation Blog (blog.playstation.com).
“Death was supposed to be the end — but for Laufey, a new adventure is just beginning.”
